Kani Ka Pila Grille

In Hawaiian “kani ka pila” means to make music and Kani Ka Pila Grille at Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort certainly lives up to its name. As far as food, the grill serves decent mai tais and a tasty mahimahi catch of the day special. But you’re here for the live music.

With a line up of Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning (dubbed the “Hawaiian Grammys”) artists seven nights a week, it’s arguably one of the best places on Oahu to hear Hawaiian music. Unwind to the soulful songs of Sean Naauao on Mondays; enjoy the skillful guitar-playing of legendary performer Cyril Pahinui on Wednesdays; Hawaiian music mainstay Hookena has the spotlight on Fridays; and on Saturdays recently formed trio, Ka Hehena, takes the outdoor stage.

After five years in business this March, Kani Ka Pila Grille has built a following. Don’t be surprised if at one point during the night, a kamaaina from the audience is inspired to dance an impromptu hula during an artist’s set. That’s what music making, true local style, is all about.
