Hunting, sport shooting, paintball, airsoft: Whatever the sport, we can transport your shooting equipment—but as you’d expect, there are some rules and restrictions. Read on for more information.

 

Firearms: What you need to know

Here’s a guide to help you transport your firearm with the least amount of stress possible. Below we’ve listed the conditions of acceptance that must be met in order for us to accept your firearm for transportation.  

Conditions of Acceptance

  1. Call your Local Representative, to make advanced arrangements for transportation of firearms
  2. Firearms must be unloaded and packed in a suitable container that meets all conditions listed below:
    • A manufacturer's crush-proof type container, made specifically for the firearms
       - OR -
    • A hard-sided container specifically designed for the same purpose
  3. The baggage containing your firearms must be hard-sided and locked with a key or lock combination possessed only by you, the passenger

    Note: It’s OK to pack firearms in a crushproof container with no lock and then in a locked, hard-sided suitcase.
     
  4. You may check in up to 11 lbs of ammunition per passenger, packed separately from your unloaded firearms in the manufacturer's original package or securely packed in fiber, wood or metal boxes. Loose or bulk packaging in bags or boxes will not be accepted.

    Note: Store bought items do not necessarily equate to manufacturer’s original packaging.
     
  5. And finally, you’ll need to declare baggage containing firearms upon check-in with an agent.

You are responsible for knowledge of and compliance with all federal, state, local and international laws regarding possession and transportation of firearms. For more information, visit the TSA website.

Rest assured, baggage containing firearms will be stowed in an area that’s inaccessible to passengers (but not in the cockpit).

Note: The state and federal laws prohibit those under the age of 21 from carrying firearms.

Firearm Fees

Baggage fees will apply and are charged per piece for each direction. For more information, visit Baggage Fees and Restrictions.

If your firearms exceed your baggage allowance, excess baggage fees will be charged.

Any piece over 70 lbs/32 kg will not be accepted as checked baggage for both Domestic and International travel.

State and Country Laws for Firearm Transportation

Different states and countries have their own laws regarding the transportation of firearms. Destinations in Hawaiian Airlines’ network have the following rules:

Arriving at the Airport

When you check in at the airport, you’ll need to declare to a Hawaiian Airlines airport customer service agent that your baggage contains firearms. At that time, the agent will inspect your firearms to see if they comply with our conditions of acceptance. You will then be asked to fill out a form stating that the firearms are not loaded.

Once the paperwork is completed and your firearms have been inspected then you’ll be all set to go!

 

Paintball Guns: What you need to know

You can check in your paintball gun equipment—that’s one paintball gun with one barrel, one hopper and one mask—by meeting a few simple conditions:

Conditions of Acceptance

  1. You’ll need to declare that you are transporting a paintball gun
  2. The CO2 tank must be removed and must be empty
  3. The barrel and hopper must be removed
  4. Your gun must be placed inside a case

Paintball Gun Fees

Airsoft Guns: What you need to know

Our rules for transporting airsoft guns are as simple as those for paintball guns. You can check in your airsoft gun equipment—one airsoft gun with one barrel, one magazine and one mask—by meeting these conditions:

  1. You’ll need to declare that you are transporting an airsoft gun
  2. The CO2 tank/magazine must be removed and must be empty
  3. The magazine must be removed
  4. Your gun must be placed inside a case
